Isanti Businessman Sentenced to Life in Prison for 1993 Murder

Jerry Westrom Found Guilty of Premeditated Murder

Victim's Family Finally Receives Closure After Decades-Long Cold Case

Isanti, MN - Jerry Westrom, a 56-year-old businessman from Isanti, has been sentenced to life in prison for the 1993 murder of Jeanne Ann Childs. Westrom was found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder and second-degree intentional murder by a Hennepin County jury on Thursday.

The victim's family has finally received closure after decades of waiting. Childs's sister, Mary, spoke at the sentencing hearing and said, "We are relieved that justice has finally been served. This has been a long and painful journey, but we are grateful that the truth has come out."

Westrom's attorney, Joe Friedberg, said his client will appeal the conviction. He said, "We believe the jury made a mistake and that Mr. Westrom is innocent."

The case has been a cold case for decades. Childs was found dead in her Minneapolis apartment in 1993. She had been beaten and strangled. Westrom was not a suspect at the time, but DNA evidence linked him to the crime in 2018.
